Louisa County Trash & Recycling Guide

Louisa County operates nine refuse and recycling convenience centers across the county, plus a full sanitary landfill near Mineral for items that need more than a standard drop-off can handle. The county doesn’t provide curbside trash collection — residents self-haul or hire a private hauler. Recycling is free at all nine centers, and hazardous waste collection events run twice a year.

How the System Works

Louisa County’s nine convenience centers are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They accept bagged household trash and comingle recycling at no charge to county residents. No loose trash, no metal, no construction debris at the centers — those items go to the county sanitary landfill.

The system works well for the typical Louisa County household. Nine centers distributed across a rural county means most residents have a reasonable drive. For households where self-haul is impractical, private curbside service is the alternative.
