Goochland County Trash & Recycling Guide

Goochland County sits between Richmond to the east and the Blue Ridge foothills to the west, stretching along the James River in Virginia’s rural Piedmont. The county operates two convenience centers for residential trash and recycling drop-off — and compared to many of its rural neighbors, the system is genuinely accessible. Both centers are open seven days a week, free for residents, and accept a wide range of materials including electronics and appliances.

Two Convenience Centers — Both Open 7 Days

Central Convenience Center

1908 Hidden Rock Lane, Maidens, VA 23102 | (804) 556-5374

Monday–Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Except county holidays and other announced closures.

Western Convenience Center

3455 Hadensville-Fife Road, Goochland, VA 23063 | (804) 556-5375

Monday–Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Except county holidays and other announced closures.

Both centers are on opposite sides of the county, making at least one reasonably accessible regardless of where you live in Goochland. Proof of county residency is required. No fee for standard household trash and recyclables.

What's Accepted

Both Goochland County convenience centers accept a broader range of materials than most rural Virginia facilities:

Tire Disposal Fees

Tires up to 19″ off rim: $2.00 each
Tires up to 19″ on rim: $6.00 each
Tires 19″–24″ off rim: $13.00 each
Agricultural/tractor tires (24.5″–42″, off rim): $30.00 each

Curbside Recycling — CVWMA Program

Goochland County works with the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) to provide curbside recycling service in select subdivisions and HOA-served areas of the county. If your neighborhood qualifies, curbside recycling is available for $25.00 per household per year. Contact CVWMA at (804) 340-0900 or visit cvwma.com to check eligibility for your address.

Annual Hazardous Waste & Special Recycling Event

Goochland County holds an annual special collection event at the Fairground Property (intersection of Sandy Hook Road and Fairground Road, Goochland). The event includes:

Proof of Goochland County residency required for all services. Event is typically held in early June. Check goochlandva.us for the current year’s date.

Electronics Recycling

Electronics are accepted year-round at both convenience centers. Additionally, CVWMA contractor Securis holds a monthly electronics recycling event on the first Saturday of each month at 8419 Glazebrook Avenue, Henrico — open to all Central Virginia residents. Fees apply. Visit cvwma.com for current details.

No County Curbside Trash Pickup

Goochland County does not provide residential curbside trash collection. The two convenience centers, combined with seven-day access, serve most residents well. Private haulers operate in the county for those who prefer curbside service.
